Pre-sales questions
Why does green hosting matter?
The IT sector has a huge climate impact. At present, between 3 and 4 percent of all electricity (and the associated carbon emissions) used in the world goes to running data centers. Using green hosting services can help reduce that number. Read more about our green hosting.
Are your servers Unix or Windows-based?
At present our servers are Linux-based running CentOS 5; our customers are set up on Intel Xeon Quad Core 2.0GHz machines with 8gb of memory.
Why would I want a dedicated IP address?
Dedicated IP addresses may have distinct advantages over shared IP addresses for search engine optimization purposes. This product can be added to your hosting account at any time for $9.00 USD per quarter.
Do you allow adult sites?
We do not allow adult sites or gambling sites - we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone.
What control panel do you use and do you have a demo?
The control panel we use is cPanel. A demo of cPanel can be found here.
Can I pay monthly?
You can pay by the month, quarter, or year.
How long does it take to setup my account?
For security purposes, all orders are manually checked for fraud. Once your order is verified your account should be live within a few hours.
How much disk space do I need?
The answer is - it depends. But the vast majority of our clients are using less than 1gb (1,000mb) of space. Even our photographer clients who have hundreds or thousands of images on their sites typically are using around 3-6gb.
How much bandwidth do I need?
The answer is - it depends. If you'll be moving a lot of information to or from your site, such as for an ecommerce site that's quite busy, you'll need more bandwidth than an information-based site will.
Are there any hidden costs or setup fees?
As stated on the hosting details chart, there is a one-time $10.00 setup fee for all accounts.
Do you offer dedicated IP addresses?
We do. Dedicated (or static) IP addresses may be better for search engine optimization purposes - refer to this article by one of the leading search engine marketing firms for more information. Dedicated IP addresses (one per cpanel) cost $3.00 extra per month.
Do offer a GUI interface for managing databases?
Yes, we run the latest stable version of phpMyAdmin.
Can I password-protect directories?
Yes, this is easy to do within cPanel.
Will you place ads on my site?
We will never place ads on your site.
Do you allow sites to advertise for money, such as the use of Google Adsense?
Yes, we allow sites to have commercial advertisements.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept Visa, Mastercard, Google Checkout and Paypal as well as business checks.

How long does it take to get my domain working?
It usually takes 24-48 hours for a domain to fully propagate once set up or repointed.

Where do I go to login to my control panel?
You go to http://www.yourdomain.com/cpanel
I forgot my control panel password, can I reset it?

I tried to login to my control panel unsuccessfully - now I can't see my website/get email!
If you tried to login unsuccessfully a few times, the server probably added your IP address to the firewall's deny list. Submit a ticket and we'll clear this up for you ASAP.

FTP

To create an email account, login to your control panel and click Mail, then Add/Remove Email Accounts. *NOTE: By default you have no email address setup. The main username may look like it is setup as an email, but if you wish to use it, you will need to add it as an email account.
What settings do I use to check mail from my mail software, such as Outlook or Thunderbird?
Use the following settings for your incoming mail (POP3):
Email - accountname@yourdomain.com
Username - accountname+yourdomain.com (that's a +, not an @)
Server name - mail.yourdomain.com
Use secure connection - Yes, TLS if available (may be slightly different on Outlook)
Use secure authentication - No
Use these settings for outgoing mail (SMTP):
Server name - mail.yourdomain.com
Authentication - Yes, use name and password
Username - accountname+yourdomain.com (that's a +, not an @)
Password - your mail account password (will be the same as your control panel password unless you change it)
Use secure connection - No
Port Number - 26
These settings work for the majority of clients. If these settings don't work for you, first try using an @ instead of the + in the username (for both POP3 and SMTP if there's a username specified for both). If that still isn't working, replace the server name with the IP address for both POP3 and SMTP. You can find your IP address in the welcome email from NOCO Hosting.
Can you tell me what's wrong with my Outlook/Thunderbird/Entourage, etc.?
NOCO Hosting is not an IT services provider. We're happy to provide the information you need to retrieve email from the hosting server to your browser, desktop, laptop or portable device, but we are not responsible for troubleshooting your software or hardware. You will need to contact your IT provider, your ISP, or your software/hardware manufacturer for assistance.
Where do I go to check my email using my browser?
Go to www.yourdomain.com/webmail/ and use your username and email password to login. Your email password will be the same as your control panel password unless you change it by going to www.yourdomain.com/cpanel/, then clicking on Mail > Add/Remove/Manage Accounts, select your account and then Password in the dropdown menu to the right.
CGI/ASP/PHP/MySQL/JSP
None of my cgi scripts are working on the server. How do I get them to work?
Make sure that they are chmodded to 755.

Login to your cPanel and click MySQL Databases. After your database is created and you add a user to it, you can manage it from phpMyAdmin. This can be found at the very bottom of the MySQL page.

How do I purchase a private SSL certificate from you and what type is it?
We sell Comodo 128/256 bit SSL certificates - go here for more information. We install SSL certificates for free if you have a current annual hosting plan.
How do I transfer an SSL?
Every company that sells SSL certificates has a different transfer procedure. You will need to ask the company your SSL certificate was purchased from for more information.
Subdomains
What is the difference between parked domains and subdomains?
Subdomain URLs look like forum.domain.com, cat.domain.com, etc. Parked domains are a placeholder site, parked on top of another site and it becomes a single page of the site you park it on.
READ THIS BEFORE YOU CREATE A SUBDOMAIN.
To create a subdomain, cPanel asks for the name you wish to use. MAKE SURE the subdomain name you supply doesn't already have a folder with that name. If it does, the subdomain will not work. If you already have a folder by the same name, you'll need to rename it or delete it before you create the subdomain with the same name.
