What you need to know as a WordPress blog owner

There are a few caveats to owning your own WordPress blog on your domain:

  • You must keep WordPress updated. This is very important for security reasons; WordPress comes out with an update generally every few weeks and will let you know by putting a big 'nag warning' across the top of every screen in your administration area. Fortunately there area a few plugins that make it easy, and we'll install these for you. For more information on keeping WordPress up to date read this article.
  • You'll need to update your plugins. WordPress will let you know when this needs to happen by placing a colored dot on the 'Plugins' tab in your user interface. Go to Plugins, and you'll see a notice underneath each plugin that needs to be updated. Just click and you're done.
  • You're responsible for handling spam. Fortunately there's a great plugin that handles it, and we'll install this for you.
  • You're responsible for backups. Again, there's a plugin that will let you schedule backups of your entire WordPress site to be sent to via email. We'll install that plugin for you.
